I'm so happy you're here. Grab a cup of tea (or wine), and join me on this amazing adventure.

Now, I wish this were a high-end super efficient blog. They're out there, but this is not it (frankly, I'd much rather discover and write than figure out all the blogging stuff). 

Here are a few things to help you inside this cozy home:

  • If you are new here, please read READ ME FIRST. It explains everything.
  • In the top left corner there are three bars. If you click on them, you'll see my bio and LABELS. All of the information in this blog has labels identifying which family or person/people a post or item is connected to. The labels are listed in alphabetical order. 
  • If you are curious about someone in particular, you can also search for them by clicking the magnifying glass in the top right corner.
  • Under those three bars, you'll also find how to subscribe to get updates and new posts, as well as  contact information - feel free to send me a line!

Finally, there is no rhyme or reason to any of this. Like I've said, I'm letting the ancestors lead the way. It's going to bounce all over the place! Also, this isn't really about genealogy, although it's definitely involved, but it's mostly about the stories and treasures associated with the lives that gave us ours.

The Spiral Notebook

I said from the beginning of this adventure that I'd let the ancestors lead the way. My mom's side of the family, the Hartzler/Radtke side, has been coming through for several days - loud and clear! Today, I reached into a box and pulled out a small container. Inside was a spiral notebook filled with Grandma Hartzler's journaling. She was amazing at keeping books of daily happenings and milestones. This notebook described her history from 1932 through 1951 as well as her dad's life story.  I  feel like I've just spent the last few hours with Grandma, and it's been awesome. Recently, I've been working on a post about my grandpa Hartzler, telling the story of the Hartzler name and what I know of his life, but oh my goodness, did Grandma pipe in about him!
